We are getting lower TNT shipping rate
We just got lower TNT shipping rate, we have integrated this into our online store shipping calculator. We cannot integrate UPS rate into our online store. If you choose over-estimated UPS rate when you submit order from online store, we will re-calculate UPS cost manually later.
For overseas shipment: We will use TNT by default, since TNT shipping rate is lower than UPS.
For USA air shippment, we will use TNT express by default (UPS express costs about 10% more) if 1.5kg dimensional weight. if <3LB, we may use UPS express Pak instead. for USP express saver (next day delivery) is only slightly cheaper than UPS express (next day 10:30am delivery). UPS expedited (2 day delivery) is only slightly cheaper than UPS express saver. So if we ship by UPS, we will use UPS express by default.

We are getting lower UPS shipping rate from different agent (we are unable to integrate it to our online store shopping cart at this moment).
When you choose TNT express in checkout:
1. For USA destination, we will use UPS express to replace TNT express at the same cost.
2. For almost whole Europe, HongKong, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, we use UPS expedited parcel to replace TNT express at the same cost. Upon your request, we can send you shipping quote of UPS expedited service.
If you have preference between TNT express and UPS expedited, please tell us your preference in customer note in checkout or in seperate email.
For almost all overseas countries outside North America, TNT economy express is still most cheapest shipping method for over 4kg parcel.
Domestic shipping: For shipping to Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa and other neighbor areas, UPS ground is about $6.7 (<5kg, next day delivery). We are unable to integrate it to our online store shopping cart. So if you choose Canada post expedited parcel during checkout, we will replace with UPS ground by default and revise shipping cost in pdf invoice manually.

Update shipping cost info from Jan. 3 (Monday), 2011 :
1. For UPS/TNT/Fedex air, dimensional weight (LB) will be changed from LxWxH (inch)/166 to LxWxH (inch)/139. Dimensional weight (kg) will be changed from LxWxH (cm)/6000 to LxWxH (cm)/5000. So the dimensional-weight result will increase 20% than previous calculation, shipping fee will increase equivalently near 20% in most cases. The dimensional-weight calculation formula for UPS ground is same as before. The (dimensional) weight shown in online store is still based on old formula, but the calculated TNT/UPS air shipping cost in online store is based on new formula.
2. Basic annual increase of TNT shipping rate :
Increase between 4% and 10% mostly.
3. Basic annual increase of UPS shipping rate :
Ship to USA: Express: 4%, 2-day expedited and 3-day select air : 5%, ground: 3%.

We can add fiber connector by fusion-splice, to any optical fiber module, by Ericsson FSU 995 FA splicer. The splice will be protected by heat-shrink tube. By default, we will use following standard SM pigtails with FC/UPC connectors and with either bare 250um-coating fiber or 3mm-cable, and the material cost is inclusive.

Fusion-splice and re-packing is quite time-consuming and we offer this service only to promote our sales rather than make money by fusion-splice. So we probably do not offer discount for multiple splices.
We are not able to do fusion-splice on PM fiber at our lab, though we may ask our partner-company at different city to do this for qty order.

What is new in TNT shipping :
TNT economy express will be available to more countries. A few countries have upgraded from zone 3 to zone 2. TNT rate increases about 10% for both TNT economy express and TNT express in 2010.
What is new in UPS shipping :
* There is C$2 extra pickup surcharge in 2010 if parcel is picked up at the same day. No pickup surcharge if ship next day. We have added this $2 fee to our online store shipping calculator for UPS express/expedited/3-day-select. UPS ground will be shipped next day by default, but you can request to ship at the same day if you agree to add $2 additional pickup fee to the calculated online store shipping cost.
* UPS rate probably increases about 3%-6% in 2010.
* UPS insurance cost is C$1.8 for every C$100 coverage, and the 1st C$100 coverage is free, for any UPS speed options and for any destinations. We do not include the insurance cost in our online store calculator. We normally do not apply insurance in shipping since we have never lost any parcels so far. But we reserve the right to add insurance for some special shipments.
* For UPS ground from Canada to USA and all domestic services, there is C$1.85 residential surcharge if receiver's address is within non-business building that does not have an entrance open to the public, which is not included in the calculated online store shipping cost. We may add this fee manually to pdf invoice.

* Canada post: Insurance coverage for loss or damage will increase to $1.35 per $100 coverage for USA/International destinations and $1.15 for domestic destinations.

Unlike UPS and Canada post, we have to calculate TNT shipping cost manually outside online store. TNT claims that shipping rate already includes free custom broker service (except TNT economy express to USA).
Shipping to outside USA and Canada:
* TNT express is mostly cheaper than Xpresspost and certainly much cheaper than UPS, available to almost all the countries. It is faster and has better tracking than 4-7 days Xpresspost.
* TNT economy express: much much cheaper than Xpresspost especially for large parcel, from 3 days to 2 weeks delivery depending on destination country.
* TNT economy express is available to almost whole Europe, Australia, New Zealand, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, India, a few other Asian countries, and few South American countries.
Shipping to USA: TNT express (1-2 day) is cheaper and faster than 2-day UPS expedted, and much cheaper than 1-day UPS express saver. TNT economy may be cheaper than UPS ground.
