LC96A74P-FXR is same as LC96A74P-20R, except LC96A74P-20FXR has HI1060 single-mode fiber pigtail. 250um-coating bare HI1060 single-mode fiber without fiber connector. See sample manufacture test data at the last three pdf links below. See datasheet at 1st two pdf links below (1st one is from Oclaro website, 2nd one from manufacturer email). The manufacturer is II-VI Corporation from Germany, who purchased the product line from Oclaro in 2014, keeping same Oclaro specification as before. Actual products are made in April, 2015.
The LC96P series pump module utilises a Fiber Bragg Grating design for enhanced wavelength and power stability performance. This product has been designed to ensure superior wavelength locking over drive current, temperature and optical feedback changes. For this Oclaro model: LC96A74P, kink-free output power of actual test data is normally much larger than 400mW (see three samples in last 3 pdf links below), so customers can use them at much higher than 365mW in their actual system products. For example, manufacturer Oclaro confirms that "If the LC96A74P sample meets a minimum kink free power of 500mW, at a drive current of 950mA or less, then they can be operated at 455mW over life. There are no additional ageing considerations to take in to account due to the pump being used at a higher power." This thumb of rule is quite accepted by EDFA makers, especially for Oclaro LC96 pump lasers(Unfounately, (Note: Some II-VI product samples may not get max output power as high as Oclaro). Kink-free power test data of all our samples are mostly at 996mA (we opened 8 samples from Store Product Code: OSC-PUMP-980-034S), only two samples are at 980mA or 992mA), so max operating power can be chosen around 950mA(also about 10% margin for current).
PMF vs SMF performance and fusion: PMF over SMF on 980nm pump laser has better spectrum stability and SMSR performance. So PM fiber is better than SM fiber usually, especially at high power, but it is not so huge. As for 980nm, the pump power will shift to signal power finally, so the difference could be neglected. For the fusion between PM fiber and SM fiber, PMF splicer is better. SMF splicer is still ok, you need choose special splice program or you make your own program. The key is, you should choose the right splicing type: cladding alignment. So the thin core will insert into the thick core totally.
